Back to [[conference:committee:2015-proposals]]\\ \\ **Title**: Monad at the Hyperbole (and other awesome stories)\\ **Proposer**: [[2015:Seb Rose]]\\ **Type**: Tutorial\\ **Duration**: 90 mins\\ **Description**: \\ This session will help you to be a better software developer.\\ \\ As software developers we have to deliver something useful to our customers. We have to produce it in a manner that acknowledges their requirements and their context. And usually, we’ll need to be able to work in a team - with other people.\\ \\ Are my customers more likely to be satisfied if I’m awesome? Does having ‘passionate’ as part of my job description help deliver value? In what circumstances would monads (or any other implementation level detail) be a critical part of a successful solution?\\ \\ This session will analyse real-world examples of projects that succeeded and failed. The stories may not be familiar, but the behaviours of the organisation, team & individuals will be. We’ll use academic research (from the so called ‘soft’ sciences) to analyse the part that hyperbole, overconfidence and bravado played in the final project outcome.\\ \\ Be prepared to laugh and cry. And finally, be expect to be challenged.\\ \\ \\ \\
