In the Java world Make gave way to Ant, which gave way to Maven (with some Gant), which is giving way to Gradle. Gradle is now the build framework of choice for the discerning Java and Groovy developer, showing that internal DSLs (domain specific languages) are the future for build frameworks. Gradle can also be used for many other languages such as Scala and C++. Indeed not only is Gradle now the nominated build framework for all Android development, it is able to build native code systems as well as JVM-based ones.
