Title: Crossing the chasm from web to Windows 8 development
Proposer: sander_hoogendoorn
Type: Presentation
Duration: 90 minutes
Description:
With the introduction of the new Windows 8 / Windows Store platform Microsoft is delivering a whole new software development paradigm. Building applications for this platform is totally different from ASP.NET web development, and even differs from building WPF and Silverlight applications. Or isn’t it?
During this talk speaker Sander Hoogendoorn, Principal Technology Officer and Global Agile Thoughtleader at Capgemini will demonstrate the software architecture, frameworks and patterns that his team is using to be able to migrate swiftly from ASP.NET and traditional desktop development to Windows 8 / Windows Store development. Using these advanced techniques developers with knowledge of the aforementioned platforms are capable of crossing the chasm to the new paradigm.
Sander will show the major differences in building applications for these platforms, and introduce a reusable applications architecture that can be used on all platforms. Next he will demonstrate the patterns that his team applies to move forward. These include the new Define-Render pattern, how to build templated frames and pages in Windows 8 / Windows Store using or rather avoiding XAML, and advanced binding techniques. This talk delves beyond the basics of group-detail and group-item pages. Of course this talk is supported with many code examples and live coding.
