Title: Recruitment - how to find a team you like
Proposer: Burkhard Kloss
Type: panel discussion
Duration: 45 mins
Description:
Recruitment is probably one of the most important aspects of software development - with the right team, anything is possible. It's certainly a topic with strongly held opinions, as repeated discussions on accu-general suggest - but I think it's not been examined as thoroughly as possible. I'd like to bring together a panel of three or four people (TBD) with experience on both sides of the recruitment process, and discuss strategies both for choosing people that are right for the team - and, conversely, how to pick the right team when you're looking for a new job. How do you determine whether a candidate - or your potential new colleagues - can program their way out of a paperback? Can you test whether they know the language, or solve puzzles - but will they deliver in practice?
