Title: User Stories Don't Help - Introducing Persona Stories
Proposer: william_hudson
Type: Workshop
Duration: 90 mins
Description:
This workshop is based on an article that will appear in the ACM's Interactions magazine, Nov-Dec 2013 and on workshops run by William over several years that address the integration of user-centred design with Agile approaches to software development. A key issue in this integration is the historical focus on roles in user requirements (employed in use cases and user stories, for example). However, roles can create as many problems as they solve and play no useful part in most consumer-oriented systems, with unhelpful roles such as 'visitor' or 'customer'. This workshop describes the shortcomings of roles and user stories in particular and investigates more user-centred solutions through the use of personas - which are often misunderstood by both the user experience and software development communities. Participants will have the opportunity to create personas and compare user stories with persona stories. The workshop has no prerequisites except that attendees should have a genuine interest in producing interactive solutions that are suitable for their intended users.
